In 2008 I got involved with PMI like many of you, looking to get certified, and reached out to PMINAC for exam prep advice. I joined the study group offering provided by the chapter. I was very grateful for this, and instinctively wanted to give back, so I volunteered, first with the study group as a facilitator, then moved on to board positions. For our chapter, over the past three years I have held the position of VP Certification Support, and am currently the VP Membership.
They say that good things happen when you get involved with PMI. I’ve witnessed that first hand. I was a member of PMI Scheduling Community of Practice (SCoP) and in 2012 attended the SCoP conference in New York. I am a recent PMI LIMC graduate having completed the Leadership Institute Master Class program along with 33 other chapter leaders from 18 countries around the world, and I am currently our Chapter’s liaison for the PMI Educational Foundation.
I’m very proud of where we are today as a chapter, and want to see us further develop the support and program offerings you are asking for. I have recently worked on implementing the Chapter Guest Pass program and membership desk so that your friends and colleagues that may not be too familiar will have the opportunity to experience the Chapter offerings.
Recently I returned from the PMI Leadership Institute meeting in Barcelona where I gave a presentation to other chapter leaders on cultivating organic leadership within PMI Chapters. I see this as a great opportunity for us and want to see this continue to develop within our chapter. Hearing your stories of the great things that have come your way due to your engagement with the chapter is a true motivator for me. I have enjoyed the opportunity to serve you these past three years, and am excited to continue to do so.
There is still much we can do together and I am looking forward to being there for you, our members.
Phil Beck, PMP
