Sunil Phool is a devoted member of society, motivated to implement positive change in his community. He is an open-minded individual who values family, culture, tradition and friendship. He and his wife have adopted a son after being foster parents for 11 years.
As an active member of the community, Sunil has held director and member positions with many non-profit organizations raising funds and awareness, projects have included: a fashion show for mental health awareness, a little champion competition, Infinity Safety Awareness, LGTBQ Issue in South Asian Community and Ethno-fashion gala and more . He can also be found in the Community Division Patrol- Southeast Division, volunteering with the Edmonton City Police.
Sunil demonstrates a passion for his practice – health & safety – by continuously accepting opportunities to give back and fostering an attitude in others to better the community. He is a member of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering, Auditor Association of Canada, and is eager to give back to the profession through a governance or committee position.
Sunil graduated with a Master of History degree from the University of Delhi and has accumulated numerous health & safety-related diplomas/certifications since arriving in Canada.
He is currently the Director of a locally owned Health & Safety Consulting company specializing in safety programs, audits, and risk assessment. He holds a Certified Health and Safety Management System Auditor (CHSMSA) designation from the Auditing Association of Canada as well as having affiliations with Certifying Partners such as the ACSA and ESC. He seeks to promote behavior-based safety within the community through a not-for-profit safety association.
He is an accomplished health & safety professional having accrued 20 years of experience in off-shore oil & gas, COR auditing, process safety, equipment & skill training, and interpersonal relations. Sunil also has worked as a commissioned Logistics Officer with the Canadian Armed Forces and in the travel industry in India. It is through these positions he has held progressively responsible leadership roles, executing multi-level responsibilities as part of the management team – all the while honing his problem-solving skills and communication strategies. His leadership style involves collaborating with others to achieve personal and professional goals.
Sunil is currently involved with the City of Edmonton in promoting awareness on recycling and composting, having completed the Master Composter Recycler Community Leader in Waste Management program. Sunil also volunteers his time in other professional fields: Edmonton Business Association, Auditing Association of Canada, and ACSA Edmonton Regional Safety Committee as Secretary, and as a Board Member of the Attendance Appeal Board with the Ministry of Education.
Sunil has received letters of recommendation from MLA’s and MP’s for the promotion of health & safety in the South Asian Community in Edmonton.
